DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM ISSUES

Description:

The recently promulgated Arsenic Rule will require that many new drinking water systems treat their water to remove arsenic. Iron based treatment technologies including iron removal and iron coagulation are effective at reducing arsenic in water because iron surfaces have a strong adsorption capacity toward arsenic. Given that drinking water distributions contain iron surfaces such as corroding iron based pipes, arsenic may accumulate in them. This talk illustrates how arsenic can accumulate in drinking water distribution system solids.
