USEPA/USGS Sample Collection Protocol for Bacterial Pathogens in Surface Soil
Citation:
U.S. EPA. USEPA/USGS Sample Collection Protocol for Bacterial Pathogens in Surface Soil. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, 2014.
Impact/Purpose:
This Sample Collection Procedure (SCP) describes the activities and considerations for the collection of bacterial pathogens from representative surface soil samples (0-5 cm). This sampling depth can be reached without the use of a drill rig, direct-push technology, or other mechanized equipment. Analizing soil samples for biothreat agents may, for instance, define the extent of contamination or determine whether the concentrations of contaminants present a risk to public health, welfare, or the environment.
