Impact/Purpose:

The joint conference of the International Wildland Fire Safety Summit and the Human Dimensions of Wildland Fire is intended to provide a foundation that will facilitate setting a course to the future that addresses and responds to developing challenges locally, regionally and globally. Understanding and incorporating the human health impacts of wildland fire smoke is a key factor to be considered in these discussions.

Description:

The presentation will briefly summarize what is known about the health effects of exposure to wildland fire smoke, and what health effects are suspected to be associated with exposure. Knowledge gaps and opportunities for key research efforts will be discussed. The presentation will conclude with a summary of informational products provided by the US EPA and our partners that are intended to inform public health officials and the public on ways to reduce exposure and protect health.
