Urease in Mangrove Wetland Soils: Development of a Novel Approach to Measure Enzymatic Activity and its Relevance as an Indicator of Environmental Condition. (abstract 2nd presentation). Presented at Society of Wetland Scientists 2010 Annual Meeting, SALT LAKE CITY, UT, June 27 - July 02, 2010.

Impact/Purpose:

Determine urease activity in mangrove soils using a rapid and sensitive fluorometric method for measuring the production of ammonia. Examine relationships between activity of this enzyme and visual, microbiological, physical and chemical measures of mangrove soil quality. The objective is to evaluate these metrics as relevant indicators of the environmental condition of mangroves.
