Impact/Purpose:
To elucidate the relative role of sediment processes to carbon, oxygen and nutrient cycling processes in the hypoxic area of the Louisiana Continental Shelf. In this abstract we indicate that sediments play an important role in the remineralization of nutrients, regulation of bottom-water oxygen concentrations, and the fate of nitrogen through denitrification.
