Impact/Purpose:
Research to assess the ecological integrity and condition of coastal wetlands is underway to assist local, state, regional, and national efforts to protect healthy wetland and prioritize sites for restoration. In this presentation, lessons learned from studying deteriorating salt marshes in comparison to less altered coastal wetlands is discussed.
Description:
Noticeable changes in structure and function in some Narragansett Bay, RI and Jamaica Bay, NY coastal salt marshes support the idea that “tipping points” in these ecosystems have been exceeded.
