Ecological Role of Microcystin: Evidence from a Field Study (NALMS 2018)
Impact/Purpose:
These findings provide new insight into the currently debated ecological functions of microcystin in freshwater reservoirs. Microcystin is a hepatotoxin that has been linked to the deaths of humans and domesticated animals and a common constituent of increasingly frequent cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms throughout the world.
Description:
A presentation of some important findings from an investigation into the ecological function and triggers of microcystin production. Our approach combined molecular genetic tools and systems ecology.
