The Microbial Fecal Indicator Paradigm: Tools in the Toolbox Applications in Recreational Waters
Oshima, K. The Microbial Fecal Indicator Paradigm: Tools in the Toolbox Applications in Recreational Waters. Global Water Summit 2018, Paris, FRANCE, April 15 - 17, 2018.
This is a presentation at the FDA sponsored Water Summit that is focused on the implementation of new irrigation water guidelines for microbiological water quality. The presentation focuses on ORD research to support EPA Recreational Water Quality Criteria
Summary of ORD’s recent research to develop tools for assessing microbial water quality in recreational waters. Methods discussed include the development of health associations between microbial fecal indicators and the development of culture, and molecular methods for fecal indicator bacteria, and the development of coliphage methods as fecal indicators. The development of microbial source tracking markers are also discussed.
