Stanek, L. US Research on Wildland Fires??…with a Focus on EPA’s Efforts. US-Canada Air Quality Committee Meeting, Durham, NC, November 19, 2015.
Presented at the US-Canada Air Quality Committee meeting.
The United States spends more than $1 billion every year to fight wildfires. According to National Interagency Fire Center data, of the 10 years with the largest acreage burned, nine have occurred since 2000 (as of 2012). This period coincides with many of the warmest years on record nationwide. This presentation summarizes the wildland fire research conducted at NERL laboratories.
