Seminar presented at UGA Environmental Health Department
Description:
- Many of the nation's rivers, lakes, and estuaries are impaired with fecal indicator bacteria. - Fecal contamination from point and non-point sources is responsible for the presence of fecal pathogens in source and recreational waters - Effective compliance with TMDL regulations requires identification of the sources of contamination, E. coli and enterococci measurements do not provide this information - Methods for rapid risk assessment, fast turnaround results and site-specific criteria are desirable to make same day decision for posting beach advisories or closures; two examples are quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) and predictive modeling.
