Project Proposal: Using PBPK Models to Estimate Adjustment Factors for Probabilistic Reference Doses-presentation

Citation:

Kapraun, D. AND P. Schlosser. Project Proposal: Using PBPK Models to Estimate Adjustment Factors for Probabilistic Reference Doses-presentation. North Carolina State University (NCSU) Applied Math Practicum Course, Raleigh, NC, August 27, 2019.

Impact/Purpose:

This lecture will be presented on August 27, 2019, for an undergraduate practicum course at North Carolina State University (NCSU). The practicum course, which is taught by faculty from the NCSU Math Department, aims to expose juniors and seniors to various special topics in applied mathematics by having them solve real problems provided by partners from industry and government organizations. The authors will present a project that involves using PBPK models to inform risk assessment “adjustment factors” that are required for probabilistic reference value calculations (as described in the World Health Organization International Programme on Chemical Safety guidance). The authors will also continue to interact with undergraduate students, graduate student mentors, and the course instructors throughout the semester.

Description:

This presentation describes fundamental concepts of risk assessment and PBPK models and specifies a practicum project that involves using PBPK models to inform risk assessment “adjustment factors” that are required for probabilistic reference value calculations (as described in the World Health Organization International Programme on Chemical Safety guidance).
