ORD Human Health Toxicity Value for Perfluoropropanoic Acid (PFPrA)

Citation:

Owens, E. ORD Human Health Toxicity Value for Perfluoropropanoic Acid (PFPrA). Federal-State Toxicology Risk Analysis Committee (FSTRAC) Spring Webinar, District of Columbia, DC, May 16, 2024.

Impact/Purpose:

Perfluoropropanoic Acid (PFPrA; CASRN 422-64-0) and its related salts are members of the group of per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). This toxicity assessment is a written summary of the potential health effects associated with exposure to PFPrA (hazard identification) and identifies the exposure levels (dose-response assessment) at which those health effects may occur. The ORD toxicity assessment focuses on chemical hazard identification and dose-response analyses that can be used along with oral exposure information and other risk management considerations to assess potential risks of PFPrA to human health. As part of ORD’s toxicity assessment, the Agency has developed an oral reference dose (RfD) for PFPrA. No known studies have evaluated potential cancer effects of PFPrA. The focus of the assessment was on noncancer, so no cancer determination was included.

Description:

This is a presentation to the Federal-State Toxicology Risk Analysis Committee (FSTRAC) on the development of the ORD Human Health Toxicity Values for PFPrA assessment.  It frames the need and problem formulation, process, results, and conclusions.
