Fry, M., P. Sinha, AND S. Julius. Fact sheet: A Handbook to Assist with Planning for Extreme Climate Events When You Have Contaminated Sites and Waste Facilities in Your Community. U.S. EPA Office of Research and Development, Washington, DC, 2022.

Impact/Purpose:

This factsheet provides a brief look at the handbook developed to assist communities with contaminated sites and waste management facilities better plan for worsening climate-related events (e.g., extreme heat, floods, droughts, and wildfires) that may cause contaminants to be released during or after such events. The framework and indicators outlined in the factsheet can be tailored for planning activities in communities with Brownfields sites and to assess the cumulative impacts of extreme climate events. The factsheet is aimed to engage planners, community organizations, researchers, environmental advocates at the local, city, tribe, state, and regional level, who might be interested in adapting the approach and involving their own technical teams in applying indicators to suit their communities' needs.
