Impact/Purpose:

Scientists from ORD’s Pacific Coastal Ecology Branch (part of CPHEA/PESD) in Newport, Oregon, will present an overview of current and forthcoming research to the Executive Director and staff of Tillamook Estuaries Partnership (TEP) on March 31, 2022. The briefing covers water quality, climate change, and ecosystem services projects, many of which were or will be conducted in partnership with TEP, and several were conducted in Tillamook Bay and nearby estuaries. The presentations will serve to bring TEP staff up to date on ORD’s work and to promote discussions on future research.

Description:

ORD scientists from CPHEA/PESD/Pacific Coastal Ecology Branch are presenting an overview of recent and forthcoming research to staff of Tillamook Estuaries Partnership (TEP), focusing on work that was conducted in Tillamook Bay and nearby estuaries. Many of the current projects were conducted in partnership with TEP. That research includes: identifying sources of nutrient and microbial pollutants that enter Tillamook Bay, quantifying the relative contributions of ocean- and watershed-derived materials to the acidification of Tillamook Bay estuarine waters, and identifying the ecosystem services that are relevant to tidal wetland restoration. Reviewing the current research will set the stage for discussions on forthcoming water quality and climate change projects. The briefing will occur on March 31, 2022, in Tillamook, Oregon.
