Citation:

Long, T., D. Smith, AND B. Hubbell. State and Tribal Wildland Fire Issues: Thematic Summary of Notes from Listening Sessions. Briefing for Program and Regional Offices, Virtual, N/A, May 13, 2021.

Impact/Purpose:

Lisa Matthews (states) and Jose Zambrana (tribes) organized two listening sessions each during January-March 2021 to solicit input on key issues related to wildland fire.  While many of the issues raised were already part of ORD's research portfolio, some potential new areas for ORD research were identified.

Description:

Active ORD research includes the following topics:  Monitoring, Modeling, Exposure and Health, Water Quality and Ecological Effects, Climate, and Resilience and Preparedness.  Other issues are related to areas where ORD can be a partner (e.g., AirNow updates).  In addition, several issues are of special interest to tribes (e.g., cultural burning).
