User’s Manual for the Storm Water Plugin

Citation:

Brookes, A. User’s Manual for the Storm Water Plugin. US Environmental Protection Agency, Cincinnati, OH, 2019.

Impact/Purpose:

Urban planners will now be able to use EPA storm water modeling as part of their decision processes when planning changes to their communities. Since the storm water models and data will be integrated into their existing planning tools, adoption and use will be significantly easier, resulting in plans that will be better for the environment.

Description:

The Stormwater Plugin is a set of web services that facilitates the integration of urban planning tools with EPA’s Storm Water Management Model (SWMM). SWMM is a hydrologic model that can be used to simulate continuous or short-term runoff, primarily in urban areas. The plugin has been designed to allow urban planning tools and GIS software such as ArcMap to integrate with web services that access relevant data and run SWMM. The plugin is intended to be used to a comparative analysis for how changes in land use affect stormwater runoff.
