Description:

We want to hear from YOU. In this interactive session we will have four 5-minute “lightning” presentations to introduce you to U.S. EPA’s latest tools for supporting Brownfields revitalization and then have breakout groups to discuss your information needs and ideas for addressing them. Attendees will engage with EPA scientists and tool developers to provide insight into their experience with Brownfields revitalization and the challenges they currently face. The lightning presentations will cover (1) an indicator-based mapping approach of community vulnerability to contaminant exposures from extreme events (2) EnviroAtlas, an online mapping application that provides geospatial data adaptable to suit stakeholder and Brownfield site needs, (3) EJSCREEN, a web-based environmental justice screening tool which allows for custom-built demographic and environmental indicator reports focused on individual Brownfield sites, and (4) a perspective on the use of tools in Brownfields practice related to extreme events, vulnerability, and revitalization. The bulk of the session will be devoted to hearing attendee feedback on their 1) roles and responsibilities in the Brownfields process, 2) information needs, challenges, and gaps; and 3) current knowledge and comfortability with EPA tools. As an interactive session, attendees will divide into breakout groups to discuss needs, brainstorm prototypes for accessing needed information, and come back together for a larger group discussion.
