Temperature, salinity and depth data from Yaquina Bay, Oregon from May 2012 through July 2012

Citation:

Brown, Cheryl A. Temperature, salinity and depth data from Yaquina Bay, Oregon from May 2012 through July 2012. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, 2019.

Impact/Purpose:

The US EPA collects water quality data in Pacific Northwest estuaries using in situ YSI sondes to support Office of Research and Development research. These data are also useful to other researchers as well as this public. The US EPA is providing temperature and salinity data from Yaquina Estuary, Oregon to a researcher with Oregon State University for use in their larval fish research.

Description:

These are temperature, salinity and depth data collected by the US EPA at Yaquina Bay, Oregon using YSI datasondes (Yellow Springs Instrument). The YSI datasonde was deployed on the Oregon State University Pumphouse dock near the entrance to Yaquina Bay. The YSI sondes were replaced approximately monthly with newly calibrated YSIs (calibrated following standard operating procedures). Upon retrieval, the YSI instrument was returned to the laboratory where its performance was checked. When the instrument was serviced in the field, an independent meter was used to collect independent readings for verification. The calibration and post-calibration data have been reviewed, and bad readings removed (e.g., when instrument was out of the water during transport); however, because these data were collected using automated instrumentation, other bad readings may be present (especially due to biofouling).
