Impact/Purpose:
The purpose of this presentation is to share EPA research with participants in a special topics course at Duke University that focuses on wildland fire smoke and communication. This presentation is designed to contribute to participants' knowledge-base on the issue of wildland fire smoke and public health, as well as provide awareness of recent EPA research in that problem domain.
Description:
In the presentation we will provide a brief introduction and background on the topics of wildland fire smoke, air quality, and public health. Next, we will provide an overview of the Smoke Sense citizen science initiative. Lastly, we will share findings from a recent Smoke Sense publication on communicating health risk information in this complex problem domain.
