Micro- and nanoplastic research at the US EPA Office of Research and Development
Citation:
Potter, P. Micro- and nanoplastic research at the US EPA Office of Research and Development. Joint Research Centre CAS6 Nanoplastics Project Final Workshop, Ispra, ITALY, November 20, 2023.
Impact/Purpose:
ORD is interested in addressing microplastic contamination in the environment by investigating ecological effects, fate and transport, and remediation options. The audience for this presentation includes other microplastic researchers who may be interested in collaborating and assisting ORD's efforts.
Description:
Microplastics are ubiquitous in the environment and present potential adverse effects on human and environmental health. EPA's Office of Research and Development is interested in developing sampling and analytical methods for microplastic detection, investigating their effects on biological systems, and exploring remediation options. This presentation is a broad overview of microplastic research at ORD. Microplastic characterization capabilities at ORD's research labs will be presented. Current and planned work in this field will be discussed.
