Description:
The US Environmental Protection Agency has created a set of open-source code packages and libraries in the realm of industrial ecology, collectively referred to as TIEM (Tools for Industrial Ecology Modeling). TIEM includes StEWI, FLOWSA, fedelemflowlist, LCIA Formatter, esupy, useeior, stateior, USEEIO API, ElectricityLCI, WARMer, and useeio-widgets, among others. They process primary environmental and economic data, build life cycle inventory and input-output based models, serve the models to web pages, and visualize model results in web pages. TIEM is used to build the USEEIO and DIO models, the Federal LCA Commons Electricity Baseline, various datasets of nation and state environmental flow totals by industry sector, the Federal LCA Commons Elementary Flow List, and life cycle impact assessment methods for use with Federal LCA Commons Data, as well as numerous other existing and potential uses. This poster will organize these tools from a capability and use case perspective. The objective of this poster will be to educate and encourage students and practitioners of LCA on how they could incorporate these tools to improve the reproducibility and robustness of their work, and in turn, contribute back to TIEM by making improvements that feed into improving their quality and robustness of TIEM. This feedback loop can in turn increase the transparency and reproducibility of LCA and related industrial ecology applications performed by the wider TIEM user community.
