Low-cost solar powered control systems for Non-PRASA drinking water treatment systems
Citation:
Williams, D. AND P. Jordan. Low-cost solar powered control systems for Non-PRASA drinking water treatment systems . 14th CECIA Biennial Symposium, Bayamo'n, PUERTO RICO, February 16 - 18, 2023.
Impact/Purpose:
This field research investigates and installs sustainable technologies for small Non-PRASA drinking water treatment systems to protect water quality, system operation, and public health.
Description:
239 small communities in remote and rugged locations are not connected to Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) for their drinking water. This research seeks to develop, install, evaluate and monitor affordable and sustainable treatment technologies to support non-PRASA systems achieving regulatory compliance. Over the past 15 years, numberous studies have been conducted resulting in substantial improvements to multiple non-PRASA systems. Our most recent technology, solar powered turbidity bypass and backwashing for roughing/pre-filters, will be showcased today's presentation.
