Pipebot Weekly Webinar Sewer Inspection - A U.S. Perspective

Citation:

Murray, D. Pipebot Weekly Webinar Sewer Inspection - A U.S. Perspective. Presented at Pipebots Weekly Webinar, NA (Virtual), UK, July 15, 2021.

Impact/Purpose:

Mr. Murray is a member of the PAC for the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council "Pipebots" Project.  The purpose of this presentation is to provide the audience, which is made up of other PAC members and project research staff, insights into the drivers and implementation of sewer inspection practices and technologies in the U.S.

Description:

Publicly owned wastewater utilities in the U.S. are required to develop and implement effective sewer inspection programs.  These programs provide data and information to meet both short- and long-term operational and planning goals.  The use of traditional sewer inspection technologies, such as closed-circuit television, are the predominantly applied technologies.  Emerging and innovative approaches to sewer inspection are expanding the portfolio of technology options for wastewater utilities.  These innovations are driven by advancements in digital imaging and artificial intelligence, to name a couple.  Still, there are technical and institutional challenges that need to be overcome before utilities accelerate the adoption of new and unconventional technologies.
