Underground Storage Tanks and Implications for Private Domestic Wells

Citation:

Hall, Alex AND F. Kremer. Underground Storage Tanks and Implications for Private Domestic Wells. Presented at Private Well Conference, NA, N/A, May 25 - 27, 2021.

Impact/Purpose:

There have been over 500k releases from underground storage tanks in the US. These releases can cause significant contamination to drinking water resources. By leveraging recently developed EPA ORD datasets, the potential for private drinking water contamination from leaking underground storage tanks can be screened on both a local and national scale.

Description:

This presentation will be givent to the Private Well Conference. It covers national perspectives on our underground and leaking underground storage tank universe, the age of this univesre, and the potential impact of extreme weather on UST infrastructure. Also discussed are methods for estimating private domestic well densities and the co-locations of UST releases and private domestict wells
