Impact/Purpose:

Underground storage tanks research

Description:

Characterize national infrastructure, fuel, and site conditions influencing corrosion and tank system integrity. Assess specific tank systems that are representative of various tanks, fuel types, and environmental conditions using on-site imaging and select laboratory testing. Identify methods to assess corrosion severity of tank systems. Diagnose the mechanistic processes controlling corrosion occurring in underground storage tanks. Provide sentinel methods for States and owner/operators to assess corrosion in operating tank systems to prevent system deterioration.
