Impact/Purpose:

This presentation will be presented at the Small Systems Drinking Water Workshop in Cincinnati, OH. Reasons for Jar Testing (1) Valuable, practical and relatively simple tool to evaluate drinking water treatment effectiveness and distribution system issues. (2) Important research tool. (3) Can be used to simulate specific practices: a. Conventional treatment (particles, pathogens, algal toxins, TOC, etc..), b. Lime softening (hardness, co-occuring contaminants, etc..), c. Iron removal/manganese removal, d. Precipitative removal of contaminants (strontium, fluoride, etc..), e. Co-precipitation of contaminants of concern (arsenic, uranium, lead, etc.), f.
