Citation:

Murray, D. Innovation in the Water Sector: Using Sight and Sound to Monitor Sewer Conditions. WEFTEC 2019, Chicago, Illinois, September 21 - 25, 2019.

Impact/Purpose:

This presentation will provide an overview of the research and development of an innovative sewer monitoring technology conducted under a CRADA with Urbanalta Corporation (CRADA #778-13).

Description:

In 2013, U.S. EPA, ORD and Urbanalta Corporation entered into a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) to conduct research and development of an innovative sewer monitoring technology. The technology applies digital imaging and sound recognition technology to characterize the conditions within a storm/sanitary/combined sewer system to facilitate wide-area network management. The technology, altaStation, is now a patented technology, for use by municipal/regional stormwater/wastewater utilities.
