Potential Application of EPA’s Environmentally Extended Input-Output Models to WiNDC

Impact/Purpose:

The EPA has developed open-source US Environmentally-Extended Input-Output (USEEIO) models. These models combine input-output tables from the Bureau of Economic Analysis with energy and environmental data on resource use (e.g., energy, land, water) and releases of pollutants from various public sources in the form of satellite tables including GHG emissions and criteria pollutants. Current development efforts to improve the model, including the incorporation of disaggregated emissions data, make it a promising complement to WiNDC.
