Development of a GC-MS/MS Method for Semi-Volatile PFAS Precursors

Impact/Purpose:

Fluorotelomer Alcohols (FTOH) and Fluorotelomer Monomers (FTM) that have known industrial and commercial applications and chemical transformation pathways that may contribute to the presence of other Perfluorocarboxylic Acids (PFCAs) in the environment. This research output will facilitate Total and targeted PFAS precursor measurements using a validated standard methodfor consistency and comparability. The outcome will enable data to be collected with known accuracy and precisionfor total organic precursor (TOP) and total organic fluorine (TOF) chemicals in water, that may then be used to informfurther research on the potential impacts of these chemicals on the environment.

Description:

Poster presentation to the PFAS Research Workshop "Science for a Changing World", hosted by Office of Research and Development (ORD) Office of the Science Advisor, Policy, and Engagement (OSAPE) and Center for Environmental Solutions and Emergency Response (CESER) at the Andrew W. Breidenbach Environmental Research Center, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 26 Martin Luther King Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45268 Tuesday, April 25 – Thursday, April 27, 2023 Presents information on the development of an analytical method using GC-MS/MS for the targeted analysis of 19 semi-volatile PFAS precursors: fluorotelomer alcohols, acrylates, and methacrylates. Demonstrating method performance in non-potable aqueous matrices Wastewater, Landfill leachate, Groundwater, and Surface water.
