Impact/Purpose:
This report provides an overview of the science conducted on the San Juan Bay Estuary and it's surrounding watershed. Its intent is to provide interested researchers and citizens with a summary of the basic documented information about the ecology of the ecosystem and for this to be used as a starting off point for more detailed study.
Este informe provee una descripción general de los resultados de estudios científicos relacionados al Estuario de la Bahía de San Juan y su cuenca hidrográfica. La intención es proveerle a los investigadores y ciudadanos interesados un resumen de los resultados de las investigaciones sobre la ecología del ecosistema del Estuario y servir como punto de partida para nuevos y más detallados estudios.Description:
We reviewed the available social-ecological, hydrological, and geochemical literature for the ecological systems of the San Juan Bay Estuary (SJBE), a site in the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Estuarine Program. The objective of the review is to gather in one place as much available information about the ecosystems of SJBE as possible, to summarize progress in the understanding of its functioning, to set the stage for the development of a fact-based conceptual model of the SJBE, and to identify priority areas of new research opportunities. The review is objective in the sense that no interpretation of data or comparison with data from other systems are made. Instead, we present the data as reported by the original scientist or teams of scientists and try to organize the information to facilitate future analysis and interpretation. This review is aimed to scientist and other conservationists seeking a comprehensive introductory guide to the ecosystems of the SJBE and their functioning.
Hemos revisado la literatura social-ecológica, hidrológica y geoquímica que está disponible para los sistemas ecológicos del estuario de la Bahía de San Juan (EBSJ), un sitio en el Programa Nacional de Estuarios de la Agencia de Protección Ambiental. El objetivo de esta revisión fue reunir en un solo lugar tanta información disponible sobre los ecosistemas del EBSJ como sea posible, resumir el progreso en la comprensión de su funcionamiento, sentar las bases para el desarrollo de un modelo conceptual del EBSJ basado en hechos e identificar áreas prioritarias de nuevas oportunidades de investigación. La revisión fue objetiva en el sentido de que no se hizo ninguna interpretación de los datos ni se los comparó con los datos de otros sistemas. En cambio, se presentan los datos tal como fueron informados por el científico o los equipos de científicos originales, y se intentó organizar la información para facilitar su análisis e interpretación a futuro. Esta revisión está dirigida a científicos y a otros conservacionistas que buscan una guía introductoria integral de los ecosistemas del EBSJ y su funcionamiento.URLs/Downloads:
