Citation:

Smith, D. Cyanobacteria Assessment Network (CyAN) Web Application. USEPA Region 8 Harmful Algal Blooms Regional Workshops, NA, GA, November 17, 2022.

Impact/Purpose:

The target audience of CyANWeb includes state and local water quality managers and public health officials needing assistance to make faster and better informed management decisions to mitigate cyanobacterial algal blooms. Additionally, the intended audience includes EPA Regions and researchers and others in academia and non-governmental organizations who may be interested in detecting and quantifying cyanobacterial blooms as well as monitoring them over time. This enhancement of CyANWeb was beta tested by users of the RARE group perform testing and review of these features providing feedback to our development team.

Description:

CyANWeb is a dynamic web application that provides a user-friendly interface for interacting with CyANO satellite derived daily and weekly datasets. The web app provides all the original functionality found in the CyAN Android app, as well as new enhancements which include those developed through the RARE project. The RARE project enhancements include: 1. Batch location data download, through csv upload of point location with results emailed to the user. 2. Waterbody statistics and data to provide a more complete understanding of the state of cyanobacteria in a waterbody. Includes metrics for a daily data as a single date, prior 7 days, and prior 30 days; and weekly data as a single data point, 4 prior weekly data points and 12 prior weekly data points. 3. Waterbody statistic reports, allowing automatic generation of cyano waterbody reports for user selected collections of waterbodies, or waterbodies by county or tribe. Monthly state and alpine lake reports are to be automatically generated and accessible to users through the webapp.
