The Effect of Fuel Characteristics and Fire Dynamics on Emissions, Dispersion, and Air Quality Impacts (RC20-1304)-poster-2022 SERDP ESTCP Symposium

Citation:

Gullett, B. The Effect of Fuel Characteristics and Fire Dynamics on Emissions, Dispersion, and Air Quality Impacts (RC20-1304)-poster-2022 SERDP ESTCP Symposium. Presented at SERDP-ESTCP-OE Innovation Symposium, Arlington, VA, November 29 - December 02, 2022.

Impact/Purpose:

This poster addresses the issue of emissions from prescribed fires. The poster discusses laboratory and field efforts to reduced prescribed fire emissions through a systematic laboratory and field study of the effect of combustion dynamics on emission levels. Successful application of this knowledge could reduced the emissions from prescribed wildland fire, improving its efficacy as a tool to limit the risk of wildfires. This poster would primarily be of interest to those in the prescribed and wildland fire science community.

Description:

The Objective of this project is to determine and model the effect of prescribed fire dynamics, as affected by ignition patterns and biomass characteristics, on emissions from prescribed fire thereby improving the ability to use prescribed fire to control wildfire risk and manage DoD lands for training.
