Field Data Informing OTM-45 Analytical Performance

Impact/Purpose:

Air emissions of PFAS from chemical manufacturing, industrial use, and thermal treatment sources, including combustion and incineration is now recognized as a significant route for PFAS releases to the environment and is evidenced by deposition as well as their presence in rainwater. The ability to measure PFAS air emissions is a recognized need, largely driven by several states and their need to address local and regional PFAS emission issues. As a result, states are reaching out to regions, program offices, and ultimately ORD for support. To provide this support, ORD is conducting emissions measurement methods development research to develop and evaluate methods for measuring PFAS.

Description:

The purpose of this product is to provide data evaluating the field performance of OTM-45 to inform the needs for future revision and update of the method.  In addition, this product serves to document feedback received from users of the method, source testers, analytical laboratories, and sources.  This product also includes discussion of additional experimental data needed to support future revision and update of the method.  As a result, the primary target audience for this product is EPA’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS), who are responsible for the development and public availability of Other Test Methods (OTMs).
