Human Mobility Data, Recreation and Water Quality

Citation:

Merrill, N., K. Mulvaney, M. Mazzotta, AND D. Keith. Human Mobility Data, Recreation and Water Quality. Presentation to NOAA/NCCOS: Economic Valuation of Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Services for Decision Making in a Blue Economy, Narragansett, RI, May 16 - 23, 2022.

Impact/Purpose:

Understanding how people value coastal recreation is important to coastal planning. Missing pieces are how many people come to visit the shore and where they come from. Our work addresses these data gaps by creating methods using human mobility datasets derived from cell phone locations to understand the value of recreation and water quality to those trips.

Description:

Presentation on work using human mobility datasets and remote sensing to understand the value of recreation and water quality.
