The Discovery of Novel PFAS in Environmental Samples (2021 MSECA)
Citation:
Strynar, M. The Discovery of Novel PFAS in Environmental Samples (2021 MSECA). 2021 Midwestern States Environmental Consultants Association (MSECA) Conference, Virtual, December 06, 2021.
Impact/Purpose:
Invited presentation to help the conference attendees understand the importance of non-targeted analysis (NTA) and the use of high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) in environmental studies.
Description:
Targeted environmental analysis is the basis of all environmental and epidemiological studies. Its major con is that only the analytes monitored for are seen. NTA offers a more holistic understanding of contaminants present in environmental samples. However it is not without its own cons (non-quantitative, relative abundance, often lack of standards). The pros and cons of each approach will be presented and examples of beneficial outcomes shown.
