Other Test Method 45 (OTM 45) PFAS Sampling and Analysis ?from Stationary Emission Sources

Impact/Purpose:

Air emissions of PFAS from chemical manufacturing, industrial use, and thermal treatment sources, including combustion and incineration is now recognized as a significant route for PFAS releases to the environment and is evidenced by deposition as well as their presence in rainwater. The ability to measure PFAS air emissions is a rapidly emerging need, largely driven by several states and their need to address local and regional PFAS emission issues. As a result, states are reaching out to regions, program offices, and ultimately ORD for support. To provide this support, ORD is providing emissions measurement guidance and expertise as well as initiating research to develop and evaluate methods for measuring PFAS.

Description:

This presentation will be made to the Environmental Council of the States (ECOS) and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) quarterly PFAS Science Call. The presentation will cover ORD air emissions measurement methods development activities and research which falls under EPA ORD’s PFAS research program. Specifically, this presentation will describe the recently completed Other Test Method 45 - Measurement of Selected Per- and Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances from Stationary Sources – which is now posted my OAQPS and available for use.
