Impact/Purpose:

This presentation is one module in an oil spill science shortcourse to be presented at the SETAC virtual meeting "Sci Con 2" to be held on online November 15, 2020. The presentation provides a state of science training opportunity to learn about hazard assessment relevant to oil spills, including the toxicity of oil types and spill treating agents. The impact is that spill responders, managers, and spill risk and impact assessors will have a better understanding of oil spill response that can be used to better prepare for and respond to oil spills.

Description:

The outline of this presentation includes: *Describe aquatic toxicity principles, including common toxicity testing practices and challenges *Mechanisms of oil toxicity *Exposure characterization *Experimental set ups *Dosing approaches *Introduce oil related tools and demonstrate the practical application of toxicity data *Summarize key take-home messages *Additional resources
