Impact/Purpose:

Presentation for the 2020 Air & Waste Management Association Annual Information Exchange

Description:

To address the emerging need to understand PFAS containing waste and the efficacy of different PFAS destruction technologies, the U.S. EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD) formed the PFAS Innovative Treatment Team (PITT) in April of 2020 to study traditional and innovative treatment and disposal technology for PFAS containing wastes. Over the course of their 6-month tenure, the PITT was provided priority within ORD to address critical data gaps in PFAS destruction technologies. The PITT supported ongoing PFAS research in ORD, as well as generating new research directions within the agency. The PITT critically examined both thermal PFAS treatment technologies as well as a host of emerging and developing technologies for PFAS waste treatment.
