Field Study Summary: PM2.5 Measurements Inside and Outside of Buildings in Missoula, MT During Summer 2019. Webinar presentation, Chapel Hill, NC, February 20, 2020.

Impact/Purpose:

This presentation slide set describes a field study that took place in Missoula, Montana during summer of 2019, where low cost PM2.5 air sensors were deployed to measure indoor and outdoor concentrations on a high time-resolution at 18 buildings throughout the city. Included in the presentation is an overview of the purpose of the field study, technical approach, quality assurance, and analysis of the data.

Description:

This presentation describes a field study to observe indoor and outdoor PM2.5 concentrations during wildfire season, implemented through a partnership between EPA ORD, Missoula City-County Health Department, and University of Montana, with some additional field logistics support from the USFS Fire Science Laboratory located in Missoula. Small form factor sensors capable of real-time measurement were utilized at 18 buildings, indoors and outdoors, over July through September 2019. The selected public or commercial buildings represented a range of air handling approaches and were locations that had higher occupancy during the summertime (e.g., fitness center, senior center, hotels). This presentation describes the variability of indoor / outdoor PM2.5 ratios over time and across this set of buildings.
