Description:
Lake Michigan has undergone substantial biological change in the lower food web, which presents multiple challenges for lake managers. These changes include diversions of nutrient and energy flow after dreissenid establishment (Hecky et al., 2004) resulting in nutrient rich nearshore areas and nutrient poor offshore pelagic areas. This dynamic has highlighted the need to better understand the exchange from watersheds, to nearshore to offshore. Therefore monitoring and sampling in the nearshore zone is critical for understanding the exchange from watersheds to nearshore to offshore, but monitoring and sampling in these areas is very difficult. To that end we employed autonomous gliders for sampling during the Lake MI 2021 CSMI.
