Impact/Purpose:
In 2021, GLTED scientists and collaborators participated in the Lake Michigan Cooperative Science and Monitoring Initiative. Our research team was responsible for analyzing nutrient chlorophyll a and zooplankton monitoring data from the field year. This presentation is to share key findings with Lake Action Management Plan partners.
Description:
In 2021, GLTED scientists and collaborators participated in the Lake Michigan Cooperative Science and Monitoring Initiative. Our research team was responsible for analyzing nutrient chlorophyll a and zooplankton monitoring data from the field year. We analyzed for spatial differences across the lake and nearshore-offshore differences within the lake. Results show high densities of zooplankton in deeper “No UV” layer relative to shallow “UV” layer, and a slight positive correlation between concentration and depth for several nutrients (TN, NOx, Si) and chlorophyll a. The data will be used by lake managers for ongoing evaluation of lake trophic change.
