Impact/Purpose:
This sub-product concludes efforts to beta test and release RETIGO version 4. This tools and resource webinar presentation will introduce users to RETIGO as a free, web-based data visualization tool and will highlighting the new data layers and enhanced features. Version 4 now includes the ability to overlay satellite aerosol optical depth (AOD) observations, public and outdoor PurpleAir PM2.5 data, to create scatterplots to compare any two data variables, to plot data on maps and graphs using several color scales options, and the ability to develop and apply a linear correction to sensor data and download the converted data for use elsewhere. Comparing with satellite and AOD measurements may allow users to understand potential influences on their data (e.g. smoke, dust). The public PurpleAir dataset will provide additional data of known quality in places where an AirNow monitor may not be available. The scatterplots and improved color scales will allow users to make better visuals while the ability to download the converted data will allow continuation of analysis outside of RETIGO. These improvements will allow users to better understand the environment they are monitoring for research/education/personal use, potentially allowing them to reduce exposure and advocate for positive change in their community.
Description:
Data visualization tools that are quick and easy to use, require no coding skills, and can be used with any type of sensor are in high demand. In addition to visualizing their own data, users often wish to compare the data they collect with other data sources such as nearby instruments that measure the same pollutants, wind measurements, satellite remote sensing data, or atmospheric model outputs. The REal TIme Geospatial Data Viewer (RETIGO) is a free, web-based visualization tool developed by U.S.EPA to offer these features. Stationary or mobile user-supplied datasets containing time stamps, latitude and longitude coordinates, and pollutant/environmental variables can be imported from the user’s computer where it is retained and secure. The tool then uses a web-interface to display data on an interactive map and in graphs for analysis by clicking available options. In recent years, the tool has been enhanced with interface updates, more user control over display options, new plots, new public data sources for comparison, new satellite overlays for visualization, and export functions that support 3-D visualization. This webinar will introduce users to RETIGO as a quick data visualization tool, review the available plots and how they might help users interpret their data, and summarize some of the newest features included in the Version 4 update.
