Description:
In this study, the effectiveness of TiO2 nanoparticles in arsenic adsorption was examined. TiO2 particles (LS) were synthesized via sol-gel techniques and characterized for their crystallinity, surface area and pore volume. Batch adsorption studies were performed using TiO2 particles in 0.01 N NaCl solution spiked with arsenic (III) and arsenic (V) and results compared to those obtained using commercially available nanocrystalline TiO2 (HG). The removal of As(V) and As (III) reached equilibrium within 24 h for LS-TiO2 and the adsorption kinetics were described by shifting order kinetics. Adsorption capacities of LS-TiO2 were higher than HG-TiO2 on a per gram basis. The effect of pH, initial arsenic concentration, particle surface area and presence of natural light was also investigated.
