Description:
The purpose of this talk was to present an overview of research activities at the US EPA's Office of Research and Development, Gulf Ecology Division located on Pensacola Beach, Florida. The talk was organized into three major sections. The first section covered my educational background and research interests. History of Sabine Island was also presented starting from its beginning as a Quarantine Station until the present. The second section discussed the Office of Research and Development (ORD), its mission and role in providing scientific data to support regulatory decisions. The Office of Pesticide Programs and Toxic Substances was discussed as an example of a regulatory office and how this office uses data supplied by ORD. The third section presented the mission of the Gulf Ecology Division and discussed the current major research projects.
