Description:
The recently promulgated Arsenic Rule will require that many new drinking water systems treat their water to remove arsenic. Iron based treatment technologies including iron removal and iron coagulation are effective at reducing arsenic in water because iron surfaces have a strong adsorption capacity toward arsenic. Given that drinking water distributions contain iron surfaces such as corroding iron based pipes, arsenic may accumulate in them. In addition, other contaminants and materials of concern can accumulate in the distribution system. This talk discusses the type of contaminants that concentrate, the degree they accumulate, and illustrates the extent the contaminants can be released back to the water in drinking water distribution systems.
