This guide provides an overview of the major metal finishing processes and operations that generate waste and presents options for minimizing it through source reduction and recycling. etal finishing processes generate various waste streams, including contaminated plating baths, spent process baths, cleaners, rinse water, miscellaneous solid waste, solvents, and air emissions. uggestions for drag out and rinse water reduction as well as bath chemical substitutes are some of the source reduction alternatives discussed. ecycling technologies discussed include electrolytic recovery, reverse osmosis, ion exchange, and evaporative recovery. o help metal finishers determine waste reduction opportunities, the guide provides a set of worksheets which take the user step by step through an analysis of the on-site waste generating operations and the possibilities for minimizing each waste. he guide is also intended to be instructive to consultants who serve the industry and government agencies who regulate it.
