Description:
This document describes in detail the U.S. Energy System database developed by EPA's Integrated Strategic Assessment Work Group for use with the MARKAL model. The group is part of the Office of Research and Development and is located in the National Risk Management Research Laboratory Air Pollution Prevention and Control Division's Atmospheric Protection Branch. The documentation is designed to help users of the database known as the EPA National Model. The model was developed to aid in technology assessment as part of a larger Air Quality Assessment being performed by EPA ORD. MARKAL is a data-driven, energy systems economic-optimization model. The user inputs the structure of the energy system to be modeled, including resource supplies, energy conversion technologies, end use demand, and the technologies used to satisfy these demands.
