Impact/Purpose:
Presentation to the OPP/ORD-EFSA Fall Meeting December 2021
Description:
Reducing the use of vertebrate animals for toxicity testing is a priority for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and, as such, the Agency is working on the development and application of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). NAMs are defined as any technology, methodology, approach, or combination that can provide information on chemical hazard and risk assessment to avoid the use of animal testing. The goals for the EPA's NAMs Training and Outreach Strategy are to: 1) Increase awareness of NAMs, 2) Obtain constructive feedback about how NAMs can be used, 3) Improve the confidence in using NAMs to inform decisions, 4) Increase acceptance of using NAMs.
