EPA Dynamically Downscaled Ensemble Version 2
Citation:
Mallard, M. EPA Dynamically Downscaled Ensemble Version 2. 2026 ACWA Water Quality Modeling Workshop, Atlanta, GA, September 29 - October 01, 2026.
Impact/Purpose:
This presentation is aimed at providing background information to inform hydrological modelers on the methodology and potential utility of the the EPA Dynamically Downscaled Ensemble (EDDE), and will be presented alongside a demo focused on data access and analysis on the cloud. As the workshop is primarily focused on state-level agencies, participation can promote cooperative federalism and state-level collaboration. Access to EDDE data can allow users to examine projected changes to extreme events and long-term conditions impacting water quality and quantity, helping to ensure clean air, land, and water for every American.
Description:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Dynamically Downscaled Ensemble version 2 (EDDEv2) contains 3D physics-based projections of historical and future conditions and extreme events over a model domain with 12-km grid spacing covering most of North America and focusing on the contiguous U.S. EDDE v2 data is available on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Open Data Project, with free egress, allowing easy access to users in need of a dynamically-consistent suite of variables to represent extreme events effecting water quality and quantity at fine temporal and spatial scales. This presentation will discuss the methodology utilized for EDDE simulations, the composition of the ensemble, and potential and current uses. A short demo will illustrate accessibility via AWS, as well as use cases and analyses on the cloud.
