Abstract |
The document presents a description of the existing legislation/regulation framework available at the Federal, state, special purpose district, county and municipal levels of governments in the United States Great Lakes Basin for controlling the nonpoint discharges of sediments, nutrients, pesticides, and chemicals associated with urban areas, transportation corridors, extractive operations, agriculture, recreational areas, forested areas, liquid, solid and deepwell disposal areas, shoreline landfilling activities, and lakeshore and riverbank erosion. It also describes the extent of the regulatory power, the commitment to develop and undertake programs and the degree of enforcement practiced at each of the specified levels of government.
